My son was looking for David Bowie songs and found this. I think it's a TV show cameo.

I think I take back what I wrote about him not aging a few weeks ago. I should still look so good at his age, but...

Nah, what would I do with looks? Who would I look at?

Hi John,

Have you ever noticed (for the most part) that the people that have the "looks", have very little to say? I'd rather have some knowledge to impart anyday! Yeh.......most people think I'm weird....what can I say??!

Hi CM! Many of us are wrapped in very attractive paper - like the prettiest present under the tree. That's fine. We're not the ones who stayed up all night Christmas Eve doing the wrapping. It's not like we can change it. But I do think that people who are decorative by no fault of their own may learn to rely on that gift without developing others as fully - it's a temptation anyway to live more on the surface when the surface happens to be pleasing. Those in less flashy paper may feel compelled to develop themselves differently. Of course, people like you and me - perfect in every aspect - can see this!

Now that was a comment on a comment, POH - which means you read comments. Which is fine, I guess. Hey! - you're Texas-bound, aren't you? I expect a complete report upon your return, General - and, if you can manage it - reports from the field.

Ummmmm, John,

He's only 2 years older than I am. He just turned 60 January 8 of this year. That's not exactly decrepit. Close, just not exactly.

Ah Sherry! How good to see you! Now, I know for a fact that you are in possession of the proverbial fountain of youth, famed of song and story, and grow evermore youthful with the passage of time. I don't know how I know that, but let's just roll with it - it sounds good. But Bowie has looked 19 for 40 of his 60 years, and that IS a tad unusual. Perhaps you two have been conspiring to keep that formula secret? I'm only 45 and I still look older than he does. He just doesn't look 19 anymore. He looks like a contemporary.

There has been much I have wanted to comment about on here lately but between being sick, being on vacation, and visiting with my daughter, I just have not had the time.

Your Fudge post made me think of when Zappa would play in NYC and they would get boo'ed off stage by fans screaming, "Youse guys stink! Bring out the Fudge!" - of course this led me to the mudshark perversions and the infamous Edgwater Inn in Seatle.

This post, however, just makes me think about how damn well Bowie plays Warhol in the movie Basquiat - I am sure you have seen the film and I wonder what you think of the performance? Anyway, Bowie has always been a love hate for me as I always appreciated Lou Reeds stage antics from the 70's a bit more than Bowies, but then again any man who gave stage time to Klaus Nomi is one damn fine fellow in my book!

Be well and smile.

Godspeed.

r.e.knowltoniii: Thanks for coming by, and welcome!

Yes, Bowie has risen in my estimation by continuing to do what he does for such a bloody long time. He's a hard worker and a good entertainer, a pretty decent actor. He's grown on me. I've been to see him a few times. Adrian Belew's band was opening for him on one tour - the one supporting "Let's Dance." I think his perennial cover of "White Light White Heat" got a better reception from the crowd than did his big hits, but that show was in NY, after all.

I did not see that movie. I never got 'round to it. I met Warhol - if 'met' is the right word for what happens when a celebrity endures being introduced to a hundred people he will never meet again. I certainly won't be able to rate Bowie's performance on the basis of that blurry experience, but you remind me I had wanted to see that one.

Some of Zappa's most memorable songs are digs. I guess if it wasn't for that enormous chip on his shoulder we'd have been deprived of them. Every band has its opening-act horror stories to tell.

You also remind me I had planned to feature Lou Reed in a Saturday music post. Perhaps I will now - that is, tomorrow. I could do a VU post, and provide some pictures and information. I haven't had a lot of time myself to devote to the blogstream. It would be fun to write something up.

Thanks again!

Nope, not 'bound', Squabbler. HERE! I'm in a section outside of Houston called The Woodlands. It is very pretty here. I'm not sure what you want to know but you know I'll tell ya anything...........

I might not be on much, J.T. but I'll check in with you each day if I can.

Oh my God. This is the FUNNIEST thing I have seen in a long time, John!!!!! Thank you, Sir...for the chuckle.
It sounds like a song off of Hunky Dory, doesn't it?

Hi John, strange vid. I don't know, I've met beautiful people who are every apt at all sorts of things. I remember the pretty girls at school were very intellegent which means that the 'blonde thing' must kick in later in life. Well it kicked in my life around - well - yeah, i was probably 5 or so but i have black hair so that cancels it out doesn't it? Ok, i'll tell you what. If ever i need to go to court for an offence of any kind - i promise to hire a defence team and not do the arguing my self. Yes. That would be a good idea i think.

Umm, i actually didn't understand this post John, unless it was you he was singing about and if that's the case - i don't think there's anything wrong with your nose, but you might think about choosing your friends more wisely. Like the jacket by the way. Cheers...

Hello Rosie! What's that? - you're a black-haired blonde? That's funny. I like that. No - I just thought the vid was amusing. I've never seen whatever TV show it comes from, but it's just such an absurdly awkward social situation.

Gee - I guess the fat man could be me. It wouldn't be funny if we were unable sympathize with him. It's very ironic humour. And irony is nasty. Not everybody understands irony, or sarcasm, or finds it funny.

No other point, though. Just wanted to share something that made me laugh aloud. My son found it whilst trawling for vids one day.

It's wonderful to see you! How's every little thing down the other side of the world?

Hi T! Yeah, this made me laugh till my sides hurt. Was it W.C. Fields who said 'comedy is watching someone else's tragedy?' Yes, it does have a Hunky Dory flavor to it. I wonder if the Brit sitcom this clip comes from is every bit as funny, or if this is the only good part? Maybe the Beeb is running the show in this country and I can catch it some time. I gather it's called "Extras."

Hi Anon! Yes, it's way too funny. Actually there's a longer version available. It doesn't let up. He just keeps going - questioning the poor bloke's sexual prowess and everything in the song. I thought it was cute. Yeah, Bowie's game for a little comedy. I've always liked that about him.
